JP Morgan Hires Former UK Politician Chuka Umunna to Top ESG Role
JPMorgan has confirmed that it has hired Chuka Umunna as the head of its ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) work in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. The news was reported by the Financial Times after Reuters came across a bank memo announcing Umunna’ appointment.
Chuka Umunna is a former British politician and has been part of multiple political parties in the UK including having served in senior roles in the Labour party, Change UK party and the Liberal Democrats.
Thanks to his new appointment, he now becomes one of the most senior black bankers in the UK. Umunna has been able to use his law background to carve a career path into a top finance role, which many before him have done in reaching high-level finance positions.
Notable examples of the above include the former British finance minister Sajid Javed, who was recently added as an advisor by JPMorgan. George Osborne, another finance minister before him, also became a partner at Robey Warshaw, an M&A firm.
